USE:

In order to either purchase or use steeds, one must first have the Riding Skill.  The Riding Skill  may be acquired in one of several ways.

It may be purchased from the LotRO Store for Turbine Points.  The LotRO Market carries the Samwise Gamgee Starter Pack for US $, as does the Turbine Market.  If one has a Free to Play (ftp) Account, purchase is the only way one can acquire the Riding Skill.    If, however, one is VIP, there is another way (once the only way) to gain the Riding Skill. VIPs may go to Hengstacer's Farm and do a quest.  Upon completion, the award is the Riding Skill.  Of course, VIPs may also purchase the Skill if they wish, instead of doing the quest.  [NOTE:  Owning a steed is gated behind the Riding Skill.  One cannot purchase, let alone ride, a steed if one has not the Riding Skill. (Yes, one can ride a Livery steed (stable steed) without the Riding Skill, however, one may not have access to Swift Travel, and FTP folks may not have access to Swift Travel even if they do have Riding Skill.)]

WHERE TO FIND STEEDS:

Steeds may be found in several places.

     1)  PRE-ORDER:  If one has pre-ordered an expansion, one will receive one or more steeds relating to that expansion.  These steeds are available only by pre-order, and nowhere else.

     2)  FACTION VENDORS:  Faction Vendors carry steeds.  Generally one must be Kindred with a faction and have rhe proper form of payment (often that area's tokens) in order to purchase a Faction Steed.

     3)  FESTIVAL VENDORS:  Festival Vendors carry steeds relating to a given festival.   One must have the proper number of that festival's tokens in order to purchase.

     4)  STORES:  Both the LotRO STORE and the LotRO MARKET carry steeds.  The LotRO Store sells for Turbine Points. The LotRO Market sells for US $.

     5)  PRIZE:  Sometimes a prize will be awarded of a rare steed.  Generally these steeds are only awarded as prizes, and are unavailable elsewhere.

CAPARISON/BARDING:

This becomes available when one is able to purchase a steed.  These are only available for warsteeds.   How one adorns one's steed is individual taste, however, please read the note in the Cosmetics forum above, before deciding.

NOTE:  The above steeds are not warsteeds.  They are for pleasure and transportation.
