re: Hobnanigans is Live!

Greetings, Kinnies!

Hobnanigans is Live!

"What is Hobnanigans?", you ask?

It is a game, similar to field hockey, except instead of using either a ball or a puck, a chicken is used.  Yes, a live chicken.   The chicken doesn't seem to mind, but when hit, it sheds many feathers.    The sport is sometimes referred to as "chicken ball' or "chicken hockey".  The purpose is to knock the chicken through the opposing team's goal posts and score.  The team with the most point wins.

Hobnanigans was introduced very early in LotRO history, and was much enjoyed for a short  while, but then it broke.  The devs, busy with expansions, have not had time to fix it before now, despite repeated cries from the populace.  It is wonderful that they finally have had the time to repair it.  Finally, it has been relaunched May 8-11, 2014.  The last time it was played was over 7 years ago!

The Hobnanigans field is located at the Bree Festival Grounds, and are those mysterious fields located behind Saeradan's cabin.   There are 4 fields.  Two are small, located in the middle, and take 3 per side (3v3).  The two flanking fields are large and take 6 per side(6v6).  Each field has two captains (NPCs), one for each side, who give you the quest to play.  One is captain for the Steel Beaks (blue).  The other is captain for the Flying Feathers (red).

The sport is wild, crazy, bizarre, silly, and much fun.  One earns unbound tokens that go into inventory and can be traded, sold or given away. One also earns assorted titles.   There is even a reputation faction for the sport, called "The Chicken Chasing League of Eriador".  There are Hobnanigans vendors at the field, each hawking a different series of items, all chicken themed.  There are: a Cosmetics Vendor; a Recipe Vendor; an Emotes Vendor; a Face Painting Vendor; an Exchange Vendor; a Housing Decorations Vendor; and 2 different Pet Vendors.

The current plan is to have the sport made available one weekend every month or so (every 4-6 weeks).  Over time, one would be able to earn many things, including Kindred with the sport's reputation faction,  "The Chicken Chasing League of Eriador".  More on this later, as more is known.

Get out there and have fun !
